Who Are Perth Energy? Print

"Perth Energy offers WA Customers a choice for

lower energy prices and a higher level of customer satisfaction."

Perth Energy is an energy supplier in Western Australia with a reputation for innovation and customer service. We have been at the forefront of industry reform to bring competition and value to energy users throughout the State. As an electricity retailer Perth Energy liaises directly with consumers and ensures that their energy requirements are met and supplied at an optimal price with minimal disruption. Perth Energy's detailed knowledge of the WA market and hands-on experience in the energy supply industry has enabled us to provide a high quality customer management service, assisting our customers at the strategic and operational levels on a day to day basis.

Perth Energy is majority owned by Infratil Australia Limited (IAL), a subsidiary of NZ stock exchange listed Infratil Limited, which owns a portfolio of energy and infrastructure assets in Australia, NZ and Europe. Infratil, through NZ's TrustPower, owns approximately 585MW of generation assets. TrustPower, together with Victoria Electricity, have close to 500,000 retail customers.

Who Are Perth Energy's Customers?

Perth Energy's customers are commercial and industrial, as electricity reform in WA has not reached the residential market, or very small business users. The current "contestability threshold" is 5.7kW average demand or 50,000kWh of consumption per year.

Perth Energy has a wide ranging customer base including some of the State’s very large industrial users, universities all the way down to local fruit & vegetable shops. We optimise the benefit to customers by managing the capacity and loads as a portfolio and using our in-depth market knowledge to help lower costs.

Perth Energy pioneered the supply of Renewable Energy to a number of environmentally conscious customers including a large number of local government councils in WA.

Where Does The Energy Come From?

Perth Energy takes power from a number of generation sources including Verve Energy (the state's largest generator) and renewable energy providers AGL Energy and LMS to supply customers. The power sources include four landfill gas based renewable energy generators in the Perth metropolitan area owned by independent power producers (IPP). Power is also sourced from the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

Perth Energy is building its own 120 MW open cycle gas turbine (OCGT) power plant in Kwinana, which is expected to be commissioned in winter 2010. Check back here for further announcements on the planned development.
